New Mushkin Memory products!

Merry Xmas to our beloved readers!! Santa just dropped in some really cool Redline DDR2 1000 MHz memory, courtesy of Mushkin. They are engrossed in gorgeous and enormous heat spreaders, designed to satisfy your continuous gaming requirements. Check it out:

It weighs at 100 grams per stick, by far the heaviest memory in-box heat spreader that we have encountered (Dominator weighed in at 70 grams, while the new ‘Radioactive’ heat spreader wighed 50 grams). People in the past were quick to compare Mushkin heat spreader to Dominator, and claim that the latter was the best. Not anymore! This baby was almost 3 times bigger in width to the one from Corsair! No doubt that the people at Mushkin made this one for the overclocking enthusiasts.

As you can see from the above, the one in between is the Redline and the one below it is the Dominator! Not to be left out of the spotlight, we also received our flagship Blackline DDR2 1066 MHz in a new, limited edition “RADIOACTIVE” avatar:

We highly recommend these products; all of our hi-end gaming rigs have hit high numbers using these, and with these new editions, it can only get better.

Thermaltake iXoft review

We all know of Thermaltake’s quality standards when it comes to cooling. Their CPU fans and liquid cooling systems are the best in the world. But what interested us the most was the cooling effectiveness of their new ’iXoft Laptop Cooler’. Touted as the first energy effecient and noiseless laptop cooler that is both a convenient carry bag and a heat absorbing mattress, we simply had to put it to the test.

Here’s how it works: the layer of sodium sulfate decahydrate crystals absorb heat and liquidify in the process and later on return back to their solid form after it is removed from underneath the laptop. Therefore, in theory atleast, it is meant to draw away the heat, while at at the same time provide protection to your lap.

The Case

The Case

Well, it sounds and looks great, but the test reaults were not staggering. While it did indeed reduce the temperature of the laptop by 2 to 4 degrees, do not expect it to magically cool 10 or more degrees like a conventional fan-based cooling unit. While it did keep the laptop cool during normal operations (music, working in general), it does not help during gaming.

The Lap Mattress

The Lap Mattress

But what it is for the price, is an amazingly stylish carry bag, with a comfortable lap mattress for avoiding those nasty heat bruises on your thighs. Besides, for people who travel a lot and who browse in airport lounges and stuff, this is a great fanless and noiseless cooling solution that doesn’t strain the battery nor is uncomfortable to carry around. For casual office work or music, this is a very solid cooling solution as oppossed to having nothing at all. For the frequent traveller, this is a very useful addition to your arsenal.
