Cooler Master V10

Cooler Master is taking cooling technology to the next level. The innovative V10 monster generates more than 200 watts of cooling power. It is the most heavy duty machine that overpowers any competition in the market.

On top of its rugged industrial design, V10 Cooler comes with remarkable and powerful features. For heat dissipation V10 is a smart 200+W cooling solution, which is modularized by 3 separate sets of aluminium fins (2 vertical & 1 horizontal), linked by 10 φ6mm heat pipes. The structural design of V10 allows for speedy heat transfer from its mirror-finished base to a large heat dissipation surface.

Bronze award

Case and cooling : April 2009

Positive points:

  • Performance when it’s unbridled
  • Performance in a low speed
  • Outlook
  • Global performance

If you have the good idea to plug in and leave the PWM motherboard fan manage as we have on our Intel DX58SO. It’s one of the best ventirads that we had, it did not exceed the 1200tpm, which allows for very low noise and beat the best cpu cooler as Prolimatech Megahalems Thermalright Ultra120 and at speeds rotation similar and therefore similar noise.

The V10 however gives higher performance in overclocked, overvolted situations which proves that the TEC is more potent than merely a liquid solution.

It would also be fair to say that in terms of looks the V10 will be a real love or hate product. For those who like its engine inspired design and want some impressive cooling performance the V10 is well worth consideration.

There is no doubting that the V10 is awesome at cooling CPUs in just about every scenario, the results pretty much speak for themselves.

This is one of the few occasions where the inclusion of a TEC is beneficial, which may largely be due to a rare case of size equating to power. In effect, CoolerMaster has employed designers that understand that the extra current provided for the TEC must also be dissipated, which results in many coolers with less power than they could have started with. But, I digress. Apart from the strangely disappointing performance on the i7 platform (and inexplicable too), this cooler did absolutely and undeniably fantastic on the socket 775 platform, easily outperforming a few entry level watercooling kits, too. That just leaves one thing to be said – this is Extreme Air cooling, and I can’t help but recommend it.

9 out of 10 rating

When all was said and done, the results did all the talking. Not only was I able to overclock effectively, I was able to push harder than ever before without resorting to more exotic and riskier methods of cooling. Having the ability to keep a Quad-Core processor under control at 4GHz is no easy feat, yet the V10 passed with flying colors. Noise levels were also well within reasonable limits.

In the PC industry and especially in the enthusiast space, knocking off the top dog takes a lot of engineering work. To say that the Cooler Master V10 is the king of air coolers is to forget that it is a hybrid. The V10 works great and cools great, as we have seen thanks to the 70w TEC. The additional cooling provided to the other components can be tough to measure, but using the ever scientific finger test, we could easily feel a difference at the Northbridge of both the Gigabyte and ASUS boards. Memory in each system was also a bit cooler. With this in mind you could say that the V10 is more than just a CPU cooler and helps keep the most critical components cooler than more traditional heat sinks. This also makes it easier for most of us to justify the additional price over another CPU cooler.

I have to say that I really like the V10. Cooler Master has been hard at work on it for over a year and it looks like all that hard work paid off. Yes it is big, yes it is bulky, but that and the ability to cool so well are what make this thing awesome. Even though you may not get Megan Fox under your side panel checking it out, I’m sure that you’ll have plenty of friends asking you about your new CPU cooler.

The Cooler Master V10 certainly feels like the ultimate cooler. I am interested in seeing if Cooler Master attempts to beat the V10 performance with the upcoming V12. At this pace, Cooler Master will be ranked amongst Thermaltake and Thermalright in terms of good quality coolers. In every field, the V10 has excelled to become a cooler of legendary proportions and will continue to lead the air cooler pack for years to come.

LANOC Gaming Recommend Award

lanoc.org : March 2009

Once the TEC cooler on the V10 kicks in it’s all over. The performance of the V10 is outstanding even when being compared to the great performance of the V8. Of course, with that kind of performance there has to be a downside. In this case, the size of the v10 can be an issue; during testing, I ran into an issue where I needed to access the ram multiple times, the size of the v10 made this very difficult. To add to this problem, just like the Hyper N520 the V10’s mounting brackets bolt from the rear, meaning you have to remove the motherboard to remove the heatsink. I hope in the future Cooler Master will bring out a design that is a little easier to use but has similar mounting performance. The V10’s size does lead itself to becoming more than just a CPU heatsink, the second fan blows down overtop of your ram and other motherboard components. This added cooling really makes the V10 a complete cooling system for your whole PC. At just under $140 dollars, this is pricey heatsink, the performance lives up to the price, but I would really like to see a full tube of thermal paste be included to help promote the value (Noctua and Tuniq have done this with great success).

Innovative Award

Hardware Canucks : March 2009

To us the V10 is simply the best there is, provided you have the heat to properly activate the TEC unit that is. If Cooler Master can ever tweak this unit to allow it to reach its full potential on lesser TDP systems (like an overclocked Q6600 for example) then this really would become the King of Air Coolers…even if has to “cheat” with a TEC to do it. As it stands and for its interesting first take in Hybrid Cooling we are proud to present the Cooler Master V10 with our Dam Innovative award.

Best Cooling Product Feb 2009 award

brighthub.com : February 2009

I thought it’s probably a CPU cooler that will be somewhat better then the stock CPU cooler. A few degrees difference and that’s it. But wow, this piece of premium hardware blew me away.

At the moment I am testing water cooling systems for a future article. The V10 CPU cooler out performs all of them. A water cooling system attempts to lower the temperature by running water over a CPU block. Then it runs the water through a radiator which lowers the temperature. I was amazed when I saw the results. I did additional tests which all turn out the same averages.

The fans are rpm controlled. But even at full load the fans where barely noticeable. Of course this might also be because of the excellent isolation of the Cosmos case.

With these results Cooler Master won the award of  ”Best Cooling Product Feb 2009″  in the category “Active CPU Coolers”. Two thumbs up for Cooler Master.

OCC Gold

overclockersclub.com : February 2009

The Cooler Master V10 CPU Cooler is a very unique cooler in a few different aspects. The first being the actual design of the cooler with the second being the integrated TEC installed on the back of the cooler. When I first took a look at the V10, I was impressed with its size and the actual feel of the cooler, it is large enough to cover the processor as well as have enough room to cover the memory modules you have installed on your board, or it could cover your North Bridge depending on which way you wanted to position it.

The temperatures that the cooler was able to produce were great. They were right in line with the others out on the market, but when the heat really kicked in, the V10 was able to give you that extra few degrees to be the “coolest” cooler out there right now (yes, pun intended).

Xtreme CPU Gold Award

xcpus.com : February 2009

Following a recurring theme, the V10 is champ, but the V8 proves that it might indeed be legendary when compared to the TRUE.  At 4GHz load we see the V8 edging out the TRUE with a ~2C difference.  That’s not much, but it is an improvement nonetheless.

It is clear from our testing that the V10 lives up to the legendary status of the V8 from Cooler Master.  Not only does it live up to the hype, but it crushes the competition.  The V10 cools well enough to give the best water cooled setups a run for their money.  You can have the V10 for $139.99 from Newegg and for much cheaper if you look around. If you were thinking of using a water cooled setup for your new Core i7 CPU, you would need to spend at least double the cost of the V10 in order to get better performance.  The V10, while a bit pricey, is a perfect replacement for your existing air cooler and much cheaper and safer than a water cooling solution.

It is because of the excellent performance and beautiful craftmanship of the Cooler Master V10 that Xtreme CPU gives it a Gold Award!

Great Hardware Award

pureoverclock.com : February 2009

The Cooler Master V10 certainly does earn its moniker, garnering as much attention about its size as what is under the hood.  There isn’t much that is subtle here; the V10 is big and brash about its looks and performance, boasting considerable horsepower in a beefy package.

From an aesthetics standpoint, the V10 does sport a rugged look that will look sharp in just about any case with its black palette, accented with chrome details and red LED fans. No doubt, it is unique.

The bottom line here is that the Cooler Master V10 offers excellent quality and cooling performance … The V10 looks great and has matching performance, but the cost may well be a stumbling block for most people.

Pro-Clockers Editors Choice

pro-clockers.com : February 2009

Coolermaster combined two technologies, thermal electric cooling and heat pipes, to give us a great cooler. But there were two other reasons I liked the V10. The first is Coolermaster was able to keep the cooler reasonable quiet at full speed. I am not saying you can’t hear the fan at full blast but it is not loud at all. The second reason I am a believer is because the peltier did not require a dedicated power supply like some units have in the past. The V10 drew only a small amount from our system’s power supply.

Temperatures with the V10 were quite good, equaling in fact the results I’m used to seeing with my Swiftech water cooling system. Load temperatures were the most impressive, not going above mid-40’s even with 1.5v applied to the CPU.

When it came to performance, the V10 is almost assuredly the best air cooler I’ve tested to date. With temps rivaling those of a decent water-cooled setup, the Cooler Master V10 handled anything I threw at it with ease.

The Cooler Master V10 Hybrid TEC cooler earns the OCIA.net Seal of Approval.

At first glance, the V10 is just breath taking in the way it stares you down from the second you open the box. A lot of coolers these days look ugly and even annoying, but not this one. The V10 stands out from the crowd with it’s sheer size, mean looks, unique ability to make the inside of your case look a lot better.

In testing the Cooler Master V10, we saw some very impressive temperatures.

Mushkin Award

Mushkin Award

The Mushkin Redlines are part of the companies extreme series. It stands for exceptionally fast settings right out of the box, but it also stands for a high price tag. A 6 GB kit will set you back at least around 200 US Dollars, while a 2000 MHz kit with CL9 from competitors costs only around 160 US Dollars. The one big and exclusive upside is the fact that these modules manage an extremely tight 6-7-6-18 at 1600. You have to ask yourself if such a guarantee is worth the price premium, which I am sure it is for some of you. For those looking for the highest speed to overclock the rest of their system to the max may want to take a look at the Mushkin 2000 MHz 8-9-8 kit for a mere 45 US Dollars more. That said, the Mushkin Redline is a great kit, with plenty of headroom using relaxed timings, good for those who want the best of both worlds – tight CL at good speeds now and high overclockability at higher CL for future overclockability. The question remains if you are willing to spend money on that or buy a new faster kit up the road.
