The Core i7 brand refers to an upcoming range of Intel’s consumer 64-bit quad-core CPUs with the x86-64 instruction set, based on the Intel Nehalem microarchitecture. These chips will also feature simultaneous multithreading, which will allow the quad core chips to work on eight threads simultaneously. According to an Intel spokesperson, the Core i7 identifier applies to the initial family of processors, Bloomfield, due to be launched in Q4 2008. According to Intel representatives, the moniker Core i7 does not have a deeper meaning.
